What is Bleaching or Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening, or tooth bleaching, is a cosmetic
dentistry procedure designed to remove stains
and discoloration, as well as lighten pigmentation
within the teeth. Discoloration can be the result
of genetics, accidents, medication, poor oral
hygiene, aging, smoking, certain foods or a combination
of these factors. Stains can be either on the
surface of the teeth or within the tooth structure.
Dr. Kamel can change all this and help you achieve a
"Hollywood" smile within one hour.
Teeth that are discolored from tetracycline or
excessive fluoride are not good candidates for
bleaching. Whitening techniques can work for tetracycline
staining only if the discoloration is mild. If
there are banded or layered types of staining,
the best that can be expected is simply an overall
lightening of the bands of color. Veneers
or crowns are the best solution for these cases. Once you
reach our office, Dr. Kamel will let you know
what the best solution for you is.
The
Tooth Whitening Procedure
We begin the tooth whitening process by checking
the teeth for cavities into which the tooth bleaching gel could
leak, causing serious damage. If cavities are found, they will be
repaired before tooth whitening takes place. If no cavities are
found, we will begin the whitening process. Your teeth can be up
to 10 shades whiter in just about one hour. The process is quick
and easy. Under the supervision of Dr. Kamel,
our whitening treatments are completely safe and will not harm teeth
or gums.
