What are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are one cosmetic dentistry option available
to correct stained, chipped, or crooked teeth. Veneers are
made of porcelain, a ceramic material that is applied to the
front of the teeth. To accomplish the desired effect, porcelain
veneers take approximately three visits to our office.
The Porcelain Veneer Procedure
The first visit to our office will consist of an exam to
make sure that porcelain veneers are the right choice. During
this visit, we will discuss the advantages and limitations
of porcelain veneers.
The second office visit is used to prepare the
teeth for the porcelain veneers. This is accomplished
by removing ˝ millimeter of tooth enamel. After the teeth have been prepared, Dr.
Kamel will take an impression of the teeth,
which will be used to make the veneers. It will
take approximately one to two weeks for the veneers
to be manufactured.
The final office visit is scheduled in order
to apply the porcelain veneers to the teeth. The
teeth will be cleaned and the veneers will be
bonded to the teeth with bonding cement. The cement
is then hardened with a blue curing light (a process
known as curing).
